Last week, Commonwealth Legal sponsored Ipro's 16th Innovations Conference and my colleague, Hugo Stoupe, Senior Solutions Consultant, and I had the privilege of attending to present our session "Building Efficiencies with Creative Workflows in Eclipse" to our fellow attendees. 

Landing in Phoenix with temperatures at 38 degrees (or 99 fahrenheit for our American friends) was certainly a welcome change from nine straight weeks of rain in Vancouver. Ipro Innovations takes place in beautiful Scottsdale, Arizona which offers great after-conference networking opportunities in places such as Old Town Scottsdale, full of character and charm.

From my experience, Ipro likes to cut right to the chase at their annual conference. We began our experience bright and early on Monday morning with a series of exams that tested our knowledge of Ipro’s impressive suite of products followed by their Kick-Off presentation where Kim Taylor, CEO and President of Ipro, immediately made some major announcements:

1. Ipro has received a major investment by the Private Equity Firm ParkerGale Capital, who specializes in the acquisition of successful technology firms. One of the biggest benefits of this investment is that it will enable the Ipro development team to accelerate the development of multiple key initiatives within their processing and review technology.
   
   
2. The Clustify analytics engine will be integrated into Eclipse, which will complete the transition from Content Analyst. The roadmap for this development will be solidified in the coming months. Adding features such as Visual Search and an updated concept wheel means that Eclipse will have a well-rounded and easily understandable toolkit to effectively prioritize documents based on case knowledge that is simple to use by any level of user.

Next up, it was time to present our session on how to leave the linear approach behind and start using creative workflows within Eclipse to help create efficiencies. As a Platinum Ipro Partner, we were excited to bring our knowledge and insight of the Canadian Market to this session, and to the conference as a whole. A few of the key topics we discussed were:

• The scalability and flexibility of Ipro’s review technology for handling an average litigation file that suddenly becomes unmanageable
  
  
• The transition of a small matter from in-house review technology into a web-hosted matter by leveraging powerful analytics technology
  
  
• TAR Review and workflows to assist firms in meeting deadlines and managing costs

I also had the opportunity to attend the “Lean Thinking” track, designed to provide insight into business solutions for eDiscovery. I was particularly impressed by Tammy Doss’ 5S methodology presentation, which examined operational efficiency and how to improve business processes. Meanwhile, Hugo attended sessions that allowed for hands-on Eclipse SE training and those that introduced new Ipro features such as Streaming Ingestion and Data Staging to minimize errors. One session that was of particular interest was during the Sedona Conference track, which took a deep dive into the science and math behind Technology-Assisted Review featuring Technology in Practice 2016 speaker, Maura Grossman.

Overall, Hugo and I agreed that being able to attend sessions that are specifically targeted towards Service Providers allowed us to increase our level of knowledge in the software to better support our Canadian customers.

As ambassadors of Commonwealth Legal, Hugo and I were humbled by the warm reception of the Ipro team, and very impressed by the announcements and changes to the Ipro technology. We certainly look forward to attending Innovations next year, and continuing our longstanding relationship with Ipro.
