The COVID-19 pandemic is forcing Canada's court system, which has historically resisted the adoption of new technologies, to operate as it never has before. In order to adapt to the demands of physical distancing, paperwork is now being replaced by electronic documents and appearances are taking place over the phone and through video conferencing. 

At present, only urgent and emergency matters are being heard. CBC reports major delays are to be expected once the courts resume back to normal, with months worth of backlogged cases.

As more organizations turn to virtual meetings in light of the pandemic, more and more vulnerabilities of the program continue to be exposed. Marriott data breach impacts 5.2 million guests

Since their last major data breach just over one year ago, Marriott has disclosed that a new breach has impacted 5.2 million guests. Names, mailing addresses, loyalty account numbers and other personal information may have been accessed at the end of February when the login credentials of two employees were used at a franchise property. DoNotPay's new service will try to help you get bill extensions due to coronavirus

DoNotPay, an organization known for fighting corporations and beating bureaucracy, is now helping users fight bills in light of the pandemic. Its newest service offers requests waivers and payment extensions from companies and landlords. It first identifies any bills such as utilities and rent that are eligible for an extension then reaches out to the company to make a "compassionate and polite request." Currently, the app is only available in the US, but The Verge reports the company is looking to bring the service to other countries. Read the full story here.
